About LCM

LCM Mission Statement
To unite and support Lithuanian nationals by helping them to integrate into Irish society and by encouraging them to maintain their national identity.

The Lithuanian Community of Monaghan (LCM) was established in 2007. The Group is a non-profit organisation and acts according to its Constitution, its Articles and the laws of the Republic of Ireland. The governing body of the Lithuanian Community of Monaghan is its Voluntary Management Committee. LCM is dedicated to supporting, assisting and educating Lithuanian people who live in County Monaghan.

The main aims of our group are:
to introduce Lithuanian children to the Lithuanian language, history, culture and traditions;
to help Lithuanian teenagers and children to integrate into local Irish society and enhance interaction with Irish teenagers and children;
to inform Lithuanian students and their parents about the Irish educational system and studying possibilities in Irish colleges and universities;
to participate and deliver various projects in order to keep children, teenagers and adults positively engaged and active;
to help residents to integrate into Irish society by providing information about social welfare, tax and healthcare system policies;
to have discussions about Irish culture and traditions;
to take part in local events (like St. Patrick's Day parade), etc;
to promote equality and multicultural awareness.

The main activities of our group are:
Lithuanian Sunday School for students (4 – 18 years of age), FRC, Mullaghmatt, once a week;
An Information Centre for Lithuanian nationals of all ages - support, help and information;
The Lithuanian children choir “ Svaja” - after school singing club twice a week;
Dance classes for children (4 – 16 years of age), FRC, Mullaghmatt, every second Sunday;
Upcoming Art classes for children and adults, location to be confirmed;
Multicultural events, exhibitions, seminars, concerts, poetry evenings.

Achievements:
Received the New Communities Award in 2007 at the County Monaghan Partnership;
Received the Embassy’s Friend Award in 2008, for assisting the Embassy of the Republic of Lithuania to Ireland in various projects and for building a positive image of Lithuania in Ireland;
The launch of the website www.monaghanlt.com, target group Lithuanian nationals, 01/01/2008;
Lithuanian Community of Monaghan was granted Charity status (CHY 18336) by the Revenue Commissioners on 11/12/08.
